Competitors in Surnex are a per-project list of domains, maintained on the Competitors page.

Where competitor data appears

Tracking comparison

Their position against yours, keyword by keyword.

GEO competitors

Who dominates AI answers for your topics.

Citation gap

Sources AI cites about them and not you.
Backlink gap also compares competitors, but takes its domains as ad-hoc input on its own page rather than reading this list.

How competitor data is collected

Competitors aren’t crawled or monitored as projects in their own right. Their data is a by-product of the collection Surnex already does for you:
  • Positions are read from the same search results page as yours during a rank check. Same keyword, same location, same language, same moment — so the comparison is genuinely like-for-like.
  • Backlink and AI data is looked up against your project’s collection schedule.
Two consequences follow. Comparisons are always same-day rather than stitched together from separate lookups. And a competitor only has data for keywords you track — adding a competitor doesn’t reveal what else they rank for. To see a competitor’s full keyword profile, use Domain Keywords on the Keywords page, which works on any domain.

Competitors vs. domain analysis

Two different tools that people reach for interchangeably: Use domain analysis to decide whether a domain is worth adding, then add it to the competitor list to track it over time.

Limits

  • Competitors are per project. A domain you compete with across several projects has to be added to each.
  • Up to 10 can be seeded at project creation. Adding them afterwards on the Competitors page has no stated cap, but every additional domain widens the comparison table.
  • There’s no competitor-level alerting. Nothing tells you when a competitor overtakes you; check the comparison table or your own ranking alerts for the drop.
